Letting Him Down

The man on the mat could not rise up and walk

All his friends knew that he needed to talk

To the Master within the cool walls of stone

In the town which He considered his own..

So they carefully carried the man up the stair

To the roof, and proceeded, when they got there,

To take branches and mud, hard-baked by the sun

And dig out a place; then when they were done

By their faith and ropes lowered the paralyzed man.

“Son,” Jesus said, “your sins are forgiven.”

“Take your mat and go home.” And some there were livid.

They thought only God could give away grace

But the Son of Man told them face to face

He said His authority here on the Earth

Was forgiving our sins; because of His birth

“We’ve not seen the likes of this ever before,”

Said those outside, praising God even more.

Jesus asked, “Which is easier – to do what I said

Or heal him so he could get up from his bed?”

He proved He had power to heal and forgive

And make it so people were able to live

With Him forever.
